On a British Airways flight recently, I was pleasantly surprised by a tub of ice cream placed in front of me by a flight attendant with my name emblazoned on it! First I thought it was a marketing strategy by the airline to favor and mollycoddle, or cuddle up to its frequent flyers—and feed their egos with warm scoops of creamy icy joy. No sir, that would have been an advertising campaign that would have cost them an arm and a leg. Then I looked closely at the packaging and typed the name on a search engine and there you go: I learned Jude’s is an ice cream company that was created by a chef, in a barn in Hampshire in 2002. He wanted to create a brand that he would be proud of consuming, and the rest as they say is history. It’s a family based company that values making our planet a sweeter place to live in.
And this is not a paid promotion. I just loved the fact that they had my name on their spectacular brand of Ice Cream, and that it is a brand that is promoted and lauded by Chefs.
I got to sample the Mango Sorbet and was pleasantly surprised by the fresh burst of flavor, high above in the sky. This ice cream actually made me smile—and I shamelessly asked the pretty flight attendant whether they had any other varieties. Obviously I didn’t get an answer in the affirmative as this was a flight with limited storage space, not an ice cream parlour. Then I took a picture of the empty tub and sent it to all my WhatsUp groups. Many of my friends circle thought that I’d launched my own brand, and the Congratulatory messages made me have a good laugh.
On further researching the brand, I found out that they have a delicious and award winning range of Honeycomb, Salted Caramel, Very Vanilla, Blue Vanilla, Cherries and Cream, Caramel Biscuit, Rum & Raisin, Flat White Coffee, and Clotted Cream. They also have a Recipe page that brings to life all the vintage British desserts that I thought were only contained in Enid Blyton’s childrens books. I grew up on Enid Blyton, Richmal Crompton (her William Brown books are delightful) and Roald Dahl. I also love British Telly Comedies like Mind your Language, Are you being served, and Keeping up Appearances, to name a few. Would be delightful to have a tub of Jude’s Ice Cream—any flavor—and binge watch these classics. And if you are in the U.K maybe you should order their delectable range and do the same.
